Review: Works Perfectly for My Application - I ordered this ammonium chloride to use when mixing solutions for a ferroblend cyanotype process. I recently learned of a modified cyanotype process that uses a copper sulfate based developer for cyanotype prints. This produces a result that looks strikingly different from a traditional cyanotype. With the right mix of chemicals and the right development time, you end up with a print that has deep blue shadows and copper midtones/highlights. One of the chemicals needed for this process is ammonium chloride. I have a pretty well-stocked chemical shelf as I do a lot of alternative process photography, but ammonium chloride is a new one for me. I've found that all of the alternative processes I use work just fine with "standard" grade chemicals and it's very rare that I need to order a lab grade reagent. Based on the results I got, I have to say that this ammonium chloride works fine. I'm unaware of what other uses it may have, but if you need it for an alternative photographic process, this product from Alpha Chemicals should work for you without issues.
Review: Affordable choice. - The quantity and quality is exactly what one would expect from Alpha Chemicals- perfect! I'm using this in conjunction with other ingredients for pyography. 1 lb of product in an easy to close zip top bag. Easy to use powder form. Easy to mix. Great value for the average household.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this work for wood burning?**
A: Yes, it will accomplish a burnt effect on wood. It is lighter in colour than burning or branding but it does work.

**Q: Can it be used as a ingredient for cookies? Similar to baking soda?**
A: That would be ammonium bicarbonate. Different thing altogether (look for "baker's ammonia").

**Q: Is this food grade?**
A: No, it is animal feed/fertilizer grade only.

**Q: Is this the same kind of ammonium chloride used in cleaning products? thank you in advance...**
A: no

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for DIY solution for wood burning.
*by J***A on September 1, 2025*

I used this for a craft I found on Pinterest and YouTube. You can mix this with thickener and have a solution for DIY wood burning with food thickener and heat gun. That's what I use it for, and it works great. Therefore, I can't comment on the other uses for it.
