Impressed!!
For now it’s seems to work perfectly. It is meant for small to medium dogs or for cats. The potion control is great but mentions in grams .. didn’t take long to figure out how much 30 potions were .. about a cup and half.I will need to fill it frequently for our Lab but should work without problems for the smaller dogs and the cats.No more waking up at 5.00 am to feed the cats ( they are on potion control and still getting used to the smaller potion size so seem to be hungry all the time). The power is dual- plug in to an outlet or 3 D batteries. Can set up upto 4 feedings, which is perfect for the cats as they get hungry later.Happy with the purchase, should help kee the pets healthy and fed on time if I get late coming back from work.

Great for keeping my cats fed and monitoring them
It requires three D size batteries, but it is easy to assemble has a nice easy to remove top for refilling it. It can be setup for 4 different meal times and you can set portion control for it. So this is great for pets that need to diet, or if you want to have your pet eat at certain times. You can load a good amount of food into it and then have it only give the desired amount. You can also record messages to play when it produces the food. The head has to be rotated about 45 degrees then you can pull it up for easy refilling of the food reservoir area.

Easy to set up, Interesting in recording my voice in it
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. I have 2 cats, and they eat a lot. I've never seen any cats eat a lot like mine. Everyday, I fill 1 big bowl for them, and whenever I get home, it's all out. Sometimes, they get too hungry and eat my food on kitchen too. I decided to buy a auto cat feeder since I can't feed them while I'm at work. This automatic pet feeder can feed my 2 cats 4 times a day. I can set up timer and my voice in this machine. It can store a whole 3.5 pounds bag of cat food, and it can always keep the food fresh as you can see in my video I provide.

Simple Automated Pet Feeder
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. This automatic cat feeder is good for portioning food without having to do it yourself all day. You can set up to 4 meals a day. At first I had difficulty getting a big enough portion. The number actually refers to the number of sections of food that will drop. For my cats this was around 20. Once I figured this out the rest was easy. It plugs into the wall or uses battery. You can even have it play message to your cat as the food falls.

A smart idea, but some design flaws (potentially serious).
1) If you are using the AC adapter and power goes off, the unit will stay powered ONLY IF YOU HAVE FRESH BATTERIES INSTALLED AND THE POWER SWITCH IS ON (1). The unit will not automatically switch to battery power if the switch is off (0), and no food will be dispensed.2) The meal portion size was not calibrated as in the manual- a setting of 4 on my unit delivered 25g of food, not 20g, so be sure to calibrate yours.3) The meal portion size button only increases the size, so if you want to decrease it, you have to hold the button in for about a minute or two until it reaches 39, then it goes back to 1 again.4) The top of the hopper should be hinged with a clasp, not screw-on, which is difficult to open and close, and it requires 2 hands- that's just goofy.5) The quality of the voice recording is quite poor and may even scare the animal rather that attract it.Other than that, it's just great!

now that I know its flaws, I can handle it
What I like about it: It's easy to set up; it has been feeding my cat reliably on-time, 2x/day for two months. The portions are very small which makes it easy to adjust to any size of cats. What I don't like: There should be a microphone to record calling for the cat - there isn't. It does not really bother me because the food makes enough noise as it is coming out that my cat hears it across the house and through the backyard. The batteries are not optional but a must. Without them there is no memory of your settings even for a second of electric outages. When disconnected from power, your settings go back to default mode right away. The giant batteries are difficult to put in - you have to squeeze all three of them in place at the same time so they won't fall out while you are closing the lid. I really don't like this astronaut head. What for?? The hat is a little tricky to twist off to refill the container but not a big problem. The feeding dish is not separable from the body so I can't wash it separately. The food container in the head is not washable, or at least not easily. I turned off the breakfast portion once temporarily so I could feed my cat something else; when I wanted to turn it on again it would not respond. It should be a simple on-off switch. It would not go back on. I had to disconnect it from the power and reset the whole thing again. Now I just put the little guy up on the counter in the morning and make sure that I put that portion back into the container, rather than turning off the breakfast. Thats a bit inconvenient. What I hate: There is no indication when the food container is empty. There should be a light indicator for this but THERE IS NO LIGHT FOR EMPTY. I may have not fed my cat for a night because I didn't know the feeder was empty.I gave it a 4 because now that I know its flaws, I can handle it. Its doing its job while I'am away and that's the most important to me. Bonus: my cat has started to dissociate my presence from feeding so she lets me sleep in the mornings.

Defective out of the box
Well, where do I begin? Seemed OK out of the box. Easy to put together but hard to get top off for filling with food.Installed 3 fresh "D" cell batteries and power up just fine. I found the instructions simple to follow and the controls intuitive. Set time and set meals for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Filled with dry puppy food that is about 1/4 round pellets. Set portion size to #6 and ran a manual test. It spit out about 5 pieces. Well that will not feed the smallest animal. Set portion control to the max #39. Manual test spit out about 15 pieces. This may feed a small rodent. Ran it several times to be sure the feeder was full. Same results every time.Very disappointed in this product. It is being returned as I type this.
