Nifty little variac supply!
This thing is very cool! It does what it is advertised (starve your effects pedals of voltage) and helps create new and somewhat "sick" sounds out of your gear. It works best with true-bypass pedals (not a plug, but Dano's older Deli and larger pedals from the '90s) as it starves the voltage from them, allowing a greater tweakability factor to occur. Other pedals, like Boss, cut out before you starve it too much, due to their electronic bypass feature. However, I ran the DA-4 in to my old Boss Super Chorus and fiddled around a bit, garnering a cool Fender Vibrola sound. It also made neat theremin sounds through my Dano Delay pedal. The price is right if you like to tweak, and you won't get electrocuted!

Good Quiet Power Supply
You know the problem with 9v wall warts is that noise in the signal can be a problem. I am powering my 9 unit pedal board with this adapter and it works great. I have used it some at lower voltages, but only on my older analog pedals. I wouldn't reccomend running digital effects at reduced voltage. The cord is a little wimpy compared to my Boss PSA adapter, but it is acceptable.

One Star
I received another power supply (Snark).

TRULY IMPRESSIVE
This product is not just a simple power supply. It has a feature that enables you to starve your amp of power. Most of the pedals I own will shut off at anything less than 6v, but even these three volts not getting to the pedal make a difference. It made my fat sandwich sound a little bit dirtier. It is in nature a pretty tame overdrive pedal, it is meant to not be too extreme and if you starve it, it is a beast. Not only can you do that, but you can purchase a daisy chain and power your entire pedal board with this one power supply. THAT IS HANDY!!! Best fifteen bucks ever spent.

Well Designed, Well Manufactured, Excellent Product
I searched out at least ten (10) power supplies geared to electric guitar pedalboards. Key features needed: (1) Low Noise; (2) Low Heat; (3) Sufficient Wattage Output to power at least four pedals simultaneously without overheating the power supply unit or creating fluctuations in output. This Dan Electrode DA-4 9-volt variable (3v to 9.6v) power supply exceeds all of the above. Additionally, it is a 'single outlet' design meaning you do not lose an outlet next to the DA-4. On top of it all, the variation is controlled by a rotary switch allowing minute adjustment to gain superb control over wattage output. As the manufacturer states "it offers you a variable 3-9 volt option that produces gritty vintage tones from most distortion, overdrive, and fuzz pedals by starving them for voltage". I suggest using at least two of these; one variable and one set to straight 9v. Using a DA-5 daisy chain you can connect up to 15 pedals. However, check each pedal and add up the amps each draws. Only connect pedals which do not, in total, exceed the 400ma rating of the DA-4. Have fun.

Sometimes the magic works somtimes it doesn't
I like the Dan Electrode but I noticed dropping the voltage on some of my pedals really changes the effect (turned my Heavy Metal into a sick fuzz and my LavaBox into a primitive distortion), and on others dropping voltage can mean a slight loss of sustain(Onerr Overdrive) or volume(FrenchToast) and thats it. It's still a good 9volt power supply but the voltage drop feature doesn't always 'wow' you.

Spooky Sounds
The Danelectrode has a knob that allows you to set how much volts you want to feed your pedals with (3V to 9V), by giving less power to them, you can get some really spooky sounds; great fun, but can also help give you your characteristic sound. I also like the fact that you connect it vertically on the outlet, this allows to connect any other stuff to the same outlet because it does not take all the space on it, like other adapters do. The price is great, I'm planning to have several of this.
