This works to stop diabetes
I had a goal to eliminate insulin shots because drugs were too expensive. I used coconut oil at least 1 Tbsp daily and changed cooking oil to coconut oil or olive oil or butter or combinations. Reduced my blood sugar count, take daily in the morning before breakfast. Started this 4 months ago, had some success, but still ate carbs including bread, pie, cake, icecream etc. Read this book, had used Atkins diet 40 years ago to lose weight, I'm 83 so it was 40 years. Diagnosed with type 2, 5 years ago. Take 40 units Lantus daily, started HFLC diet last Wed, Thurs morning had 83, 40 units Wed night, Friday morn 97, 20 units thurs night, and 96 Sat morn after NO lantus friday night...My doc will not believe this, so my plan is to continue this diet, see him in Feb, get an A1c test, then tell him about this diet, he has lots of type 2 patients. THANK You for this book, I'll be telling everyone who will listen.UPDATEApril 21 about 6 months on the diet...results are amazing blood sugar way down(less than 110) as well as blood pressure(Ave 115/62 last 100 days) and NO DRUGS. Also down about 20 lbs, and at least one pants size.UPDATEAfter 18 months on diet, blood sugar normal, blood pressure normal or better. Shared my data with my Doc all he could say was keep on doing what your doing. my weight is what I weighted in high school, my wife;s weight is almost what she weighted in high school and the diet is much easier to stay on.

THE diabetes and insulin resistance book!
This book is spectacular! I have been reading everything I can get my hands on about obesity and diabetes, including many journal articles, and have done numerous online searches for "insulin resistance". This is the most up-to-date and comprehensive information I have seen yet. The author has really done his homework. Everybody with any blood sugar or weight issues needs to read this. In fact, I think anyone interested in any aspect of health ought to read this, because the body is one organism and everything in it is related to all its other parts.I had already come across a lot of this info, but Jelinek puts it together in a brilliant new way: the problem with Type II diabetes isn't the insulin resistance, it is the carb overload. The IR is just the body protecting itself from the very toxic glucose. To treat insulin resistance as the problem has it all backwards. The real solution is to reduce what caused the problem in the first place. The logical conclusion is that Type II diabetes isn't even a "disease". It is the end result of a perfectly normal metabolic response to a very ABnormal way of eating: a domesticated grain-based diet with lots of refined sugars, and hence 'way more glucose in our bodies than they ever were designed to handle.

Diabetics NEED TO READ!!!
This is THE book I've been searching for. Has all the scientific information about the how the body processes work when you eat any kind of carbohydrate. In depth explanations of what happens in your body. This is must have information for someone trying to reverse diabetes. It answered all the questions I was left with after reading several blogs about the ketogenic diet where every blog said something different. This book clarifies everything so you can know who knows what they're talking about and who doesn't. Don't follow the advice on one more blog before reading this book. It will save you a lot of time and frustration.

Doctor based information that is understandable.
I purchased the book paperback and kindle form. The book is written by a doctor who through trial and error discovered what could remove his diabetes. He gives examples of what he discovered along with good advice about what to expect. Some of it was a little too medical but he wrote a summary after his chapters that really helped. I discovered that stress raises your numbers besides carbs and sugars. His book makes plain good sense. He has recommendations to help further and he doesn't sugar coat (pardon the pun) the message.

Buy this book!!!
Buy this book! This book has amazing information on the Keto journey from the personal perspective of a scientist. His authenticity and easy to understand science makes this book essential for understanding the complexities of getting healthy. I started on this research with great books by Gary Taubes, Nina Theicholz and others (all essential reading). This book by Dr. Jelinek adds much to the emerging science of health and wellness that was long mistaken by our government nutritional guidelines. Much damage has been done in the past to people looking for a healthy life but new science is bringing hope to those of us who knew most of the guidelines and suggested diets just didn’t work. If you are struggling to get the right information to reverse diabetes or other chronic illness, look no further. Your doctor may not know this essential information so but an extra copy for him/her.

Add Diabetes knowledge to What You Know
This book tells it from the perspective of a man determined to use his head, to do the research, & to use self testing to over come Type 2 Diabetes. And, he succeeded.I have a strong family history of diabetes, am constantly fighting blood sugar issues so...I’ve decided to try his methods & I will see how well I do. I do not want to take medication & suffer the related side effects. It won’t be easy, but if modifying my diet, plus adding to my exercise will stop my diabetes symptoms, I’m in.I’ll up date in 3 months.

Excellent book for anyone who wants to be in charge of their own health regarding diabetes.
I have had diabetes for over 30 years and, up until 2 1/2 years ago, I followed all the regular treatments for diabetes including pills, combinations of pills etc. I never used insulin as it seemed I could always achieve A1C readings in the low 7 range using pills and diet. My health professionals seemed to think this was good enough although a bit high. During this time I suffered problems with clogged arteries and ended having 6 hospital visits to place a total of 9 stents in the arteries leading to my heart. At any rate, what bothered me the most was that my sugar levels would spike after eating and stay unacceptably high for 1 to 2 hours. If I ate 3 or 4 times a day, that meant my readings would be quite high for 6 to 8 hours a day- even though the A1C test was marginally OK. In trying to combat this, I eventually decided to stop eating carbs. Within 3 months my A1C reading had dropped to the middle 5 range and I experienced none or very little spikes after eating. Now I feel I have beat diabetes by avoiding carbs. It is not an easy thing to do but worth it to me.The idea of avoiding carbs came to me through reading books such as this one however this book is much different than the others and much better. The author explains the reasoning behind the decision and explains the mechanics the body goes through to process glucose. It makes for some difficult reading as there is a lot of info there but it all makes perfect sense once you absorb the facts. I have read the first 2 chapters over and over and over in trying to get it all into my head. As well, when the author describes the difficulties he suffered in avoiding carbs and the cool reception he got from his health advisors, I agree with him completely and had gone through the same things myself.I heartily recommend this book and encourage anyone with diabetes to read it through till they understand what he is saying. To me, this is a life or death situation that you can be in control of. I think it has added years to my life.

Strongly Recommended. Follow Up: This book changed my life.
Author Tom Jelinek PhD keeps his promises. He promised a book that would be readable and he delivered. The preview I read online was reader-friendly, engaging, insightful and educational. I have learned so much just from reading this preview and look forward to finishing the book. As a lay person with a newly acquired interest in the subject matter, I greatly appreciated the book's conversational style in addressing what can be considered to be complex issues. My comfort level with the subject matter was also achieved knowing that the book is based on a combination of the author's personal experience and extensive research. I found the brief summaries at the end of each section to be very helpful. They contributed to my understanding of the material. The glossary is also a welcome part of the book which I have already made use of. I think this is the kind of information people need in advance of appointments with medical practitioners.I have ordered three copies of this book (one for myself, one for my sister, and one for my doctor) and will recommend it to others I know who might want to explore all options for addressing their pre-diabetes or diabetes or who are generally interested in the topic. When I was recently told by my doctor that I had reason to be concerned about my blood glucose, my immediate reaction was to defer to his recommended plan of action but after thinking more about it, I told him that I wanted to try to deal with my situation by making changes to my diet. Thankfully, I found out about Goodbye, Pills & Needles: A Total Re-Think of Type II Diabetes. And a 90 Day Cure soon after my doctor's appointment. After reading what I have, I can say with certainty that I feel more confident about being in control of my health and look forward to reducing my blood glucose without having to turn to pills and needles.Follow Up: Last year in July I previewed Tom Jelinek's book on this Amazon website and posted my thoughts including that I looked forward to making use of this book in my own attempt to improve my health. I can report now that by changing my lifestyle based on the book, I have been able to lose almost 40 lbs and more importantly I have significantly reduced my HbA1C and my doctor is thrilled. When I told him about the book that I was using, he wrote down the title and Tom Jelinek's name. That's when I pulled a copy out of my bag and told him that I had bought a copy for him to keep. He looked through the book and said this is really good and commented on the detail. I have no doubt he will read it more thoroughly when he has the time. In a nutshell, I just wanted to post a follow up here with my news in the hope that other people who are interested in making changes will know that it is possible. I also want to thank the author for providing me with the means by which to empower myself to take charge of my health and make improvements not only to my health but ultimately to my outlook on life. P.S. How ironic that while typing this review there is a commercial on TV about a drug for diabetes. For me there will be no pills and no needles.
