    Rammsteins' Völkerball ist perfektion!

*by A***A on Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2014*

The limited edition version of Völkerball is beyond words. In this epic tome you will receive 2 CD's and 2 DVD's (which are found on the inside cover of the book), as well as the limited edition photo book that weighs in at roughly 5-8 pounds. The limited edition of Völkerball is like receiving an amazing gift from Rammstein, and let me be the first to say, thank you Rammstein! In the Völkerball limited edition you will receive 2 CD's, these discs contain the entire Nîmes, France concert, that was performed by Rammstein on the 23rd of July 2005. There is no other band I can think of who sounds just as good live as they do on a studio album, but Rammstein clearly is not like any other band, they are in a league of their own, and these live CD's are so amazing you have to hear them for yourself! The tracks included on CD 1 are:1. Intro (2:04)2. Reise, Reise (5:31)3. Links 2-3-4 (4:51)4. Keine Lust (3:52)5. Feuer Frei! (3:32)6. Asche Zu Asche (4:06)7. Morgenstern (4:53)8. Mein Teil (6:38)9. Stein Um Stein (5:27)10. Los (7:07)The tracks included on Cd 2 are:1. Du Riechst So Gut (5:50)2. Benzin (4:05)3. Du Hast (4:21)4. Sehnsucht (4:23)5. Amerika (6:20)6. Rammstein (5:12)7. Sonne (4:51)8. Ich Will (4:21)9. Ohne DIch (5:08)10. Stripped (8:16)11. Outro (4:32)In the limited edition of Völkerball you also receive 2 DVD's. On the 1st DVD you will receive the entire concert performed by Rammstein in Nîmes, France. Les Arènes de Nîmes (The Arena of Nîmes), which is where the concert was performed, is such an impressive sight to behold. It was modeled after a Roman amphitheater and can hold over 16,000 people, now imagine packing a building such as this with diehard Rammstein fans, and having Rammstein's music and stage show fill up the space with pounding, amazing music, and you have a live performance that truly leaves you in awe! On DVD 1 you will also receive 3 smaller portions of concerts performed at the Brixton Academy in London, England, Club Citta in Toyko, Japan and Olympiski Moscow in Moscow, Russia. The concerts in London and Japan were performed at much smaller venues, but the energy that Rammstein pulls out of the fans is enormous all the same. The concert in Moscow is very fun to watch, music fans in Moscow rarely had any musicians come to Russia to perform, so when Rammstein finally came there the reception was incredible! The songs that were performed at the Nîmes, France concert are the same that I listed above, in the CD section. The songs that were performed at the Brixton Academy in London, England were:1. Sonne2. Rein Raus3. Ohne Dich4. Feuer Frei! The songs that were performed at Club Citta in Tokyo, Japan were:1. Mein Teil2. Du Hast3. Los (Trailer)The concert at Olympiski Moscow in Moscow, Russia did not feature any full length songs, it shows you bits and pieces of Rammstein performing Moskau, but most of the time the footage is of Rammstein meeting fans, and the excitement that took over Moscow when Rammstein came there. It is still very cool to watch, as you see Rammstein fans young and old (and even Russian police!) meeting the band members. On the 2nd DVD you will receive 2 documentaries. The 1st is an hour long documentary called Anakonda Im Netz. This documentary basically documents Rammstein during the Ahoi Tour (Reise, Reise Tour), which took place between the 11th of October 2004 through the 30th of July 2005. It goes behind the scenes to show you how a Rammstein tour and stage show are put together from beginning to end, it was very interesting to watch because all of the band members (Till Lindemann, Richard Kruspe, Paul Landers, Oliver Riedel, Christoph Schneider and Christian "Flake" Lorenz) give their input and give you their opinions, as well as backstage stories that you wouldn't know about otherwise, trust me if you are a Rammstein fan you will enjoy this. The 2nd documentary is 25 minutes long and is called Making Of The Album Reise, Reise. This documentary documents the making of Rammstein's 4th album Reise, Reise, from the time the band came up with the songs in Spain, through the recording of the album in Sweden. Once again the information you gain from watching this is priceless, you will get to see the various members of Rammstein relaxing, recording songs, and even learn something's you didn't now about the album (for example, Amour was the original title of Reise, Reise!). Both of these documentaries are so enjoyable to watch, as they give you sneak peaks into the creative process of Rammstein, and allow you to see how much work they (along with their stage crew) put into making an amazing stage show and album!Last but not least, if you purchase the limited edition of Völkerball you are going to receive a beautiful photo book! As I mentioned earlier this book weighs in at about 5-8 pounds, it is a glossy black color, and on the front features an image of sloping gold lines leading up to the Rammstein logo (this is based on the logo from the 1980 Summer Olympics that were in Moscow). On the inside cover of the book is where you will find all 4 of the discs, and if you flip a few pages in, you will find your limited edition book number! The book itself contains all sorts of photos, their are pictures of the Rammstein band members themselves (backstage and onstage), live concert photos, pictures of Rammstein fans, members of Rammstein's stage crew hard at work and many more! If you want to know where each picture was taken, the back of the book has an index that will give you all the details. I had so much fun looking through all the photos, and I know any Rammstein fan would too!Rammstein's Völkerball (limited edition) is such a treasure, it has hours and hours of live music and concerts, behind the scenes documentaries that are very insightful, and a beautiful book as well. Any Rammstein fan who can get their hands on this should buy it immediately, the price may seem steep at first (I paid $70 for mine), but trust me, as soon as you get Völkerball in your hands it will all be worth it!

Not very expensive when broken down....

I'm a huge fan and purchased this because it's a collectors item and I was willing to pay the price. As stated in a previous review, if you have a region free DVD player (or a DVD-ROM drive in your computer), playback of the imported PAL set is not an issue. After researching, I was able to find Volkerball for $118 (US) plus shipping. After getting it in my hands and taking a look at this edition, I started thinking about the cost. The cost of the average newly released 2 CD set is approximately $25 to $30. The cost of the average newly released 2 DVD set is approximately $30 to $40 dollars. So separately you'd be looking at $55 to $70 just for those items. Add to that a 200 page collectors edition hard bound glossy photo book, and in my opinion, the asking price is not that outrageous. For those that want the music for a lower price, there are also Standard (1 CD / 1 DVD) and Limted (1 CD / 2 DVD) edition sets available for purchase. All that being said, the concert footage is outrageously intense and I loved every minute of it. The making of Reise, Reise documentary was interesting as was Anaconda in the Net. I've been listening to the CD's for about a week now and plan on listening to them quite a bit more.

So you want to experience Rammstein?!

This was arguably the best set list they’ve done. Their energy was at their peak, this show was my introduction to their theatrical like performances. All their shows I had witnessed before we those of the family values tour and live aus Berlin. I saw them live in 2012 in Houston, Texas. However, something keeps me going back to watch Völkerball, I’ve seen their MSG and Paris performances... but Völkerball is almost better than being there. This performance has turned my nay-saying friends into awe inspired fans. You need this on your shelf, I guarantee you watch it more than twice, and you will show it to anyone who asks about it without even asking them if they want to watch it.Prost, lang lebe R A M M S T E I N
