Rebel Within -Black Vinyl Reissue

Don't let the negative reviews of this album fool you. Is this Hank III's best album? No, of course not, even III has said that, himself. He said that he'd be lucky if he ever topped "Straight to Hell", which is regarded by almost all of his fans to be his best album to date. The important thing to remember here is that this is his last album for Curb Records. In fact, at the end of this summer (I think) is when his contract with them ends. I think that he is saving his best material for when his Curb contract expires. THEN, I think you will see what he's really capable of. Having said that, though, I really don't think this album is all that bad. It's probably my least favorite, but it's still 100 times better than the crap they play on "country" radio, these days. One thing I noticed, being a musician, is that all of the songs seem to be tuned down a half-step. Whether this is to better fit his voice or just an experiment, I'm not sure, but it gives the album a darker, more somber tone, overall. The songs aren't bad, but they're not his best, either. It's hard to write, though, when your creativity is being stifled by a major record label. Just wait until he can be free and team up with someone like Wayne Hancock, Dale Watson, or even Those Poor Bastards. Even though he hasn't topped "Straight to Hell" yet, don't give up on Hank III....I have a feeling that the best is yet to come!

I liked the songs of both his father and grandfather and approached this album very cautiously. I originally was under the impression that it was like the current crop of country music, of which I am not a fan. I was pleasantly surprised when I played the first track.. Hank Jr is not like the current crop of lounge singers posing as country. His songs are original, vibrant and ask for your involvement. There isn't a bad track on the album and my only wish is that I could hear it on vinyl.

This is an alright album, some of the songs are a bit too out there to fully enjoy as Outlaw, but overall not a bad one.

Thankfully we can still find some stuff that is not "Censured for my protection". I appreciate the warnings if I choose to head them, that is great to have, but I am a big boy now and I can choose for myself thank you.

There is nothing one can say about Hank 3. One should listen to him :)

Riß mich echt vom Hocker... Es sind so viele gute Songs auf dem Album das man beinahe die komplette Playlist wiedergeben müsste. So und nicht anders hat Country zu klingen.. es ist böse und ehrlich wie das wahre leben. Und wer die Texte nicht versteht wird dahinter nur gute Laune Musik verstehen statt Ironie/Zynismus/Sarkasmus.absolut empfehlenswert: REBEL WITHIN und TORE UP AND LOUD!
