Interactive Worlds Introduces Realistic gameplay Unlike the previous games in the series, Lara's environment is now much more realistic and interactive. Footprints will be left in mud, for example, but only until it rains and then they will wash away. Lara's shirt will also get wet, and she's more likely to lose her grip if she is standing on a slippery, rain-soaked ledge. When the sun comes out, her shirt will dry and the slippery surfaces regain their friction. In Underworld, Lara also has a lot more flexibility in how she makes her way through a level, as there is often more than one way to get from here to there. She can now climb walls with texture and rocky outcroppings to reach areas she previously wouldn't have been able to access. All of these additions have been made to give the game a non-linear, open feel. Players can interactive with the environment by doing things they find to be intuitive, and the game will respond in an appropriate way. When Lara interacts with trees, for example, she will push aside leaves using either one or two hands depending on whether or not she's holding something. These details give a lifelike, immersive sensation to the game. New Melee Combat System Underworld introduces a new melee combat system that requires players to strategically strike with offensive, defensive, and evasive maneuvers. Lara can now attack enemies with different punches, kicks, knees, and other acrobatic onslaughts. Items lying on the ground, such as poles that were previously walked on, can be picked up and swung at enemies. Players can also perform a greater variety of actions with weapons; for example, Lara can now hold onto a ledge with one hand and fire a gun with the other. Realistic Enemy and Animal AI The AI in Tomb Raider: Underworld has also taken a big step forward--both enemies and animals now make independent decisions based on their surroundings, employ ambush and squad tactics when fighting, and will retreat if deemed necessary. With updated graphics and a more immersive and realistic gameplay, Tomb Raider: Underworld will have both fans and newcomers excited about the newest installment in this popular video game-pinup franchise. Tomb Raider: Underworld is loaded with a new melee combat system, various weapons, and smarter AI for both enemies and animals. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tomb Raider Underworld- First Impressions
*by A***D on December 8, 2008*

I remember playing all the old Tomb Raider games and I really enjoyed them. However I haven't played some of the later games because they just weren't as good as the beginning ones. Now I can say that Lara is truly back and the game is terrific. The graphics are much improved and Lara is quite the hot chick. Controls are easy to use on the PC and you can turn on aids that help you use the right ones. The puzzles make you think but are not too difficult. If you've played the old TR games then they shouldn't be too hard to figure out. However if you've never played any of her games then they might seem difficult. The treasures that Lara finds are so far not hidden and are out in the open, unless of course there are some I haven't found. This is one of the complaints I had about the game that the treasures are all the same and the game doesn't tell you what you found. The AI could be tweaked some more because the enemies don't really come at you aggressively. If you lay back they leave you alone and there are some areas where they won't follow you. Also, so far using a Windows Vista Quad Chip and a Nvidia 8500gt, the game did crash twice which surprised me since the game had been up to then very stable and easy to use. The puzzles could have been a little harder to solve but you do have to think about ways to do things. There are no issues with DRM and the game automatically resumes to the last game saved. All in all a very good game that relates to the Lara of the past. A definite buy. After playing the game for a few days now I have to say that it is better than I thought it would be. There are some obstacles I had trouble figuring out and had to go to a website for help. I noticed that there were quite a few people who were stumped. Also there are some controls that you have to learn how to master. So it's not that easy which makes the game even better and more challenging. I'm really enjoying it.

### ⭐⭐⭐ Fun but not for everyone...
*by S***K on March 31, 2010*

Tomb Raider is one of those enduring titles in the video game world that just doesn't seem to want to die. Unlike many other series, the Tomb Raider games have seen many changes to the video game industry and have many new interpretations at to what exactly the series will look like.Tomb Raider Underworld continues with the same graphics and imagery as Tomb Raider Legend but, unlike Legend, it is missing some of the fun and excitement that used to be characteristic of the game.I am not trying to say this is a bad game but, usually, Tomb Raider games are made with some sort of new edge to attract those new to the series into buying the game. Underworld however, was definitely a game made for the fans. There is almost no tutorial to this game whatsoever and instead, they expect you to remember the controls used in Legend and Anniversary (Games I played over four and two years ago respectively, so learning the controls was a bit of a challenge).Additionally, I found the first level to be almost the hardest level in the game and to me this doesn't make sense. While the graphics are great, the porting to the PC was not done as nicely as those to the PS3 of XBOX 360. The controls are a little hard to handle and sometimes the camera angle that you want to drift into just turns out to be wacked.Overall, a nice game but I've come to expect more from the Tomb Raider series then just a continuation off there last game.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good Game, But......
*by C***R on November 13, 2013*

Since I have the new Tomb Raider, I decided to get another TR game. Well, this game is fun, but not as good as the newer game. Not being an extreme TR player, I really must admit, I got really lost at the first of the game. I didn't understand what I was suppose to do and as a result the game seemed to "bailed me out" once. After I play a bit more, I might like this game more but at present it sort of left me a bit lost. It's not the game interface, but seems to be the idea of action first, explanation later. I would have liked a bit more background first, and maybe a short "here's how things work" section before being thrown into the action and dying off 15 times trying to figure out "how do I do that" or "where do I go". (BTW this was handled very well in the latest TR after LC wakes up in the den and must get out. (I must say I've got a number of Tomb Raider games and this one plays very well compared to some of them.) Overall, not a bad game, but not the best I've played!
