I would like to start off by saying that I didn't have very high expectations for this product, but even with that in mind I am very disappointed. I don't have a smart phone and I'm not really into tech gadgets, I simply wanted something to listen to music in while working. Even with what I thought were pretty low requirements for a portable music player I find myself very disappointed with this product and really wish I had not wasted my money on it. Seems to me that this is just a glorified memory stick with playback capabilities and $20 or so should be enough to make a device that at the very least works. Loading the music was straight forward, but that is where any satisfaction ended for me. First this unit has no shuffle mode, how hard would it be to include this simple feature. I loaded my downloaded music and cd's onto the unit hoping I could shuffle randomly through the library, but no such luck. You either have to choose one cd at a time or use the create playlist option. This wouldn't be so bad, but the playlist option is basically useless. Instead of randomly creating a playlist it seems to create the exact same list every time you use it. So once you've listened to the list it becomes boring, and worse it doesn't even include all the songs on the device. Second issue started happening a few days into ownership and at this point I will probably just throw this player away. At first it worked ok for playing music, but in a short time it started having issues. The player will just stop playing for no reason at all and when you try to restart your music it throws up a format error. When I am working I don't have time to constantly fidget with this device, so i generally just ended up turning it off. To sum up, this is a terrible MP3 player and not worth anything at all, even if I had paid $5 I'd still be disappointed. I guess I've learned my lesson and will spend more on a name brabd product. So take my advice, put the $20 you may spend on this unit towards a quality MP3 or you will be throwing your money away.

I wanted to give this "zero" stars for all the problems I had with it right from the start. But after purchasing a different brand (Goldenseller Purple Slim 8gb) which worked absolutely perfect and was even 1 dollar cheaper, I'm convinced the "Tom America" was defective. So considering that and how I liked the buttons and menu better than the Goldenseller, I gave it 3 stars as I have a feeling if I would have gotten one that worked right I may have given it 5 stars....UPDATE:After buying a different brand name which I found to be of lesser quality yet worked flawlessly, I went and gave it another shot and purchased another one of these (Tom America INC. It worked "perfectly" and without any issues whatsoever so I gave it 5 stars! Highly recommend :)

This player looked as if someone else had returned it previously. The plastic case was cracked and taped back together, and there were several songs on the player. It didn't help that they mailed it to me in a bubble-pack envelope, not a sturdy box. This thing looks nice, but I returned it because the player wouldn't return to the main menu, kept resetting the volume to 30 every time you turned it on, kept causing interference with my keyboard (which wouldn't respond anymore), and kept giving me multiple errors saying the player was not disconnected from the computer correctly (it was connected to it the entire time). Had it not been malfunctioning, I probably would have returned it anyway because the way you select/scroll/go back is really odd compared to a Zune, which is what I was replacing. I'm going to get a Sandisk player instead because my son and husband have one and have had zero problems with them.

My daughter was so very excited to get this mp3 player. It worked great for about a month, then the place where the headphones plugs in started shorting out. She can't wear it when she moves around, she just has to sit in one place and not move the player or her head, the music stops playing if it gets moved. It is so unfortunate because otherwise, it would be an awesome player!

I read the other reviews, noting that when people had a problem with this product, it was pretty much always the same problem: the battery would never charge after the first couple days. I thought, perhaps since these was a minority, that I might not have that problem. I was wrong (my mistake).The fact is, this is a poorly designed player. The casing is weak plastic that I suspect would shatter upon its first drop (and we all do drop them on occasion, right?). The controls did not make sense, as you had to hit the up (menu) button to select something but the middle button (which on most models is the select key) was the back-up button. The side-scroll buttons only made things go up and down and the folders were a ridiculous mess. The screen resolution was terrible. I didn't expect much, but my Gameboy Micro from 10 years ago has better screen resolution. Technology has improved, friends, so it shouldn't be this bad even on such a cheap unit.And finally, the battery is a mess. It arrived "fully charged" but drained of 70% of its power just in the 1/2 hour I used it to learn the ridiculous controls. Then, after listening to 30 minutes of music and watching 1 22-minute tv show, it died and never took a charge again. I used multiple outlets (both USB and wall plugs), multiple cables (I had some old cables that were compatible), but nothing worked. It said it was charging, but never accepted the charge. So it remained dead.I bought this just to have something for my kids to listen to in the car, but it couldn't even do that. So I gave up and returned it. I highly recommend that you avoid this product. I suspect that most of the positive reviews were from people who liked it on day one (I didn't hate it on day 1) but by day 3 it was dead and they never bothered to update their review.

great product, well worth what i paid

It was a great player but 45 days after the return date, the screen scrambled. It would probably work, but I can't read or see to use it. :) This is probably a one off. It worked great while it did, so don't let this discourage you.
