TV101-1870's - 1880's Petticoat with Wire Bustle Sewing Pattern

Loved it.

This is such a great piece and goes together with incredible ease. A really fun garment to wear under a late bustle dress or by itself. I love the ruffle overlay! Great job Truly Victorian!

Well, we expected an actual bustle so I guess we should have paid more attention! Still a lovely pattern I will forward to my dressmaker.

-pattern printed on heavy paper, lasts a long time and doesn't wrinkle. if you aren't sure of your size, trace onto heavy tracing paper.-very easy to put together, very dramatic.-best if worn over a corset, otherwise the weight and tug of the rear of the skirt will hurt your tummy. also, meant to be worn on the natural waist.-if you are doing this, do the ruffle overlay, as well, it prevents the bones from being seen and grabs your overskirt so it doesn't swish around too much (i made my bustle in unbleached muslin)-if you are wearing this more than a couple of times, carefully round out the edges of the bones and consider wrapping them in moleskin (remove before laundering) and reinforcing the ends of the bone channels with heavy canvas or felt (with thin fabrics and multiple wearings, the bone eventually breaks through).-i cheated on my ruffle, i cut out yards and yards of fabric in the right width, serged both edges, and ran the upper edge through my ruffler foot on a 2.5:1 ruffle. worked out fine.

I bought this along with many other patterns to create a Victorian outfit. This pattern was so great. The directions were easy to follow and everything came out wonderfully.
