Size:2 Pound Popped sorghum by Just Poppin - it's the new super food brought to you in a crunchy, fluffy, super healthy and totally delicious snack. When popped, sorghum looks and tastes just like miniature premium popcorn, only slightly nuttier and with an awesome crunch. It's low in calories and fat, gluten free, corn free, peanut and tree nut free, and best of all, it has no hulls to get stuck in your teeth! Pop with or without oil (we find it's easier to pop without) - on the stove, in the microwave, or in specific hot air poppers (contact us for info). It makes a great snack for young and old alike. Don't be fooled by the small size, a single serving size will fill you up more than a single serving of popcorn. This sorghum is not imported, it is grown right here in the US and is non-GMO and gluten free. Please support our farmers.

great popcorn substitute
This popped so well in a silicone popper on a very consistent basis. for folks who are allergic to corn and miss popcorn, this is an excellent alternative.

A nice change from popcorn
I recently read about popping sorghum, so I had to try it. I popped it the same way I pop popcorn - some vegetable oil in a pan with 3 kernels, heat on medium until the 3 kernels pop, then add the rest of the kernels, cover and shake occasionally until it stops popping. The sorghum popped pretty well, although not was well as popcorn. I'd guess about 20% of the kernels didn't pop, but it turns out that unlike popcorn, the unpopped kernels are perfectly edible. No rock hard tooth breakers at all, and no hard shell bits to get caught in your teeth. The popped kernels are tiny, about 1/2". The flavor is very mild, just slightly sweet, and would probably adapt well to any flavoring that you like with popcorn. Glad I tried these, they're a fun change from popcorn.

I'll Stick With Regular Popcorn
I didn't like it all that much. It won't work in my air popper, and when you pop it conventionally, like half the kernels don't pop so you end up having to sift them out, luckily I have a strainer that was the perfect size. After all that work, it tasted pretty much the same as normal popcorn. I'll stick to regular popcorn.

Nutty Flavor
I saw Andrew Zimmer trying this little rascals and I thought I'd give it a try, so bought 2 pounds of sorghum grain and started popping them, it is true that probably 30% will not pop, but the remaining 70% is delicious, think of it as a mixture of roasted nuts and popcorn, slightly salt them and get ready for a good movie, I recommed this sorghum, and trust me, it is very cute compared to popcorn (and tasty too).

It won't replace popcorn for me.
I had a lot of trouble popping this in a pan. I'm going to keep trying, but ultimately the bigger problem is the size of it. It's really small so you almost have to eat it with a spoon like cereal. I'll probably end up grinding it into flour. I won't end up purchasing it again.

Love this stuff!
My son was diagnosed with multiple food allergies, corn being one of them. Our family loves popcorn, so it was especially difficult to go to the theater and sit through a movie smelling it and knowing my son wanted some but couldn't have any. Thank heaven for the internet! I learned about popping sorghum on a food allergy website and decided to try it. I was a little intimidated popping it for the first time since several reviews mentioned it burns easily. I followed the instructions in Holli's review and it turned out great! It really wasn't that hard at all. I made sure I had everything handy ahead of time (it does pop fast once it starts)and set the stove timer for 1 minute once I poured the sorghum into the hot oil. When the timer went off, I removed the lid, stirring and shaking until the popping stopped. It's true that not all the grains pop, but they are very good, kind of a nutty flavor. I didn't separate the unpopped grains, I just left everything together and added salt. My son was so happy and the whole family really liked the taste. Now we have it a couple of times per week. It takes me about 15 minutes to pop enough to fill 4 cereal bowls. It's very filling and since we don't add butter, it's so much healthier. Now we just have to keep it stocked up!

I wanted to try this to see what it was like. It pops real well and makes a good snack. I like it best when I pop it just like popcorn. There instructions say to pop it in a dry pan, but I like it best to pop it in a small amount of oil and add butter and salt after it has popped just like popcorn.

I found this to be delicious. Does it pop up as large as corn? No, but it does pop and is very good. It tastes just like popcorn but is much better for you than corn. I will definitely purchase this again. It came quickly. I have no complaints.
