Poor Quality Control
Good parts. The materials used are very good, really sturdy pressure treated timber.Bad parts. The execution of the build is quite shoddy. The table arrived with no assembly instructions to start with, so much headscratching went on prior to assembly. The supplied fixings were industrial grade, self drilling screws with 10mm hex heads. Pilot holes were pre drilled by the manufacturer in places to guide the screws.Construction.It is fairly obvious that the table and benches have been assembled on jigs, probably by someone on piece rate. All the parts were nailed together with a nail gun, no screws in sight. The general fit and finish is "rustic" or in other words a bit on the rough side with no finishing or fettling. If you like a nice finish, you better budget a few hours sanding down time. The timber itself looks to be very nice quality. All in all, the overall impression is someone banging it all together as fast as possible and getting it out the door with no quality checks.Assembly.As said, no instructions were provided so the assembly had to be carefully planned beforehand. All the provided screws were the same type and length with 10mm hex heads. You are not going to be assembling this with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. You will need a good cordless drill with a 10mm nut driver attachment. The problems I encountered were the fact that the pilot holes that had been pre drilled were in the wrong place and were not aligned. Someone had just banged a drill through as quickly as possible with no thought given to accuracy. This meant that access to the screw heads became very difficult as the holes were guiding the screw heads towards the underside of the table top until the nut driver came off the head. I had to remove the screw with a 10mm spanner. Then I noticed the screw was too long and had penetrated all the way through. I ended up drilling my own guide holes in a different position to prevent the screw tip sticking out dangerously and getting the screw in squarely. Then came the fitting of the leg butteresses. You would think the ends would be accurately cut at the right angle, so they abbutted the underside of the table top and the leg accurately. Sadly, this was not the case, it appears that someone just made some quick cuts on a bandsaw with no attempt at accuracy. The angles were not square on either the X or the Y axis are either end. This made it impossible to offer up the butress without a large, angled gap at one end or the other. Again, I had to make my own guide holes for the screws.Conclusion.This table has the appearance of being hammered together by someone without skill and without pride in their work. Speed being the only consideration. It is very simple to assemble, but if you are not strong, are not really technically minded (I'm an engineer) and do not have an extensive set of quality tools in your shed, you will struggle.Materials are good, level of workmanship overall is not good. I personally would have been ashamed at the quality I was turning out if I had made it.Nothing is a good fit, nothing is finished. A poor show in this day and age.Two stars given. One for the sturdy materials and one for the good looks when it is assembled.
