Weighted Blanket - I Liked This More Over Time
UPDATE 6-16 -19I am raising my rating to 5 stars because over time I have grown to appreciate and love this blanket. I also tried another weighted blanket and found that the I liked this one better. The cotton cover is far superior fabric to the other one I tried. (on the original plus the updated one that the manufacturer sent me. At this point I would give this a 5 star rating, I still feel that it's a bit pricey for what it is, but at $50 it's better quality than others I have tried. This one is the best of the ones I have tried and I will consider buying one in a slightly larger size(for sleeping), and I would also like to get a smaller one to have in the living room as a throw. I also love that this is offered in lighter brighter colors. So many of them are dark grey and it really does not go with any of our bedding. I'm not a fan of the covers either and find using these weighted blankets without them to work best....that is where having a really high quality cotton fabric makes it super comfy. The other one I tried the cotton was so thin that it felt a little scratchy and I could actually feel the glass beads poking me which counteracts the positive effects of a weighted blanket. I am currently very happy with this weighted blanket and the way the manufacturer responded to my issues with smell and other things. I highly recommend this blanket.UPDATE 5-28-19The manufacturer of the blanket contacted me after seeing my comments and said that they had improved these and sent me a new one. Indeed in this one the pockets are smaller. They also got rid of the nasty smell, and this one just smells new. It now comes in a nice zippered case like you might see a comforter in a retail store. Unfortunately the pockets are still unevenly filled with some pockets with none at all and others that I can feel a lot. The tag still does not reflect the fiberfill inside. It also still suggests handwashing. but am guessing this is mainly to protect my washing machine in case a seam opens up. Overall the quality is improved, mainly getting rid of that toxic smell!ORIGINAL REVIEWI wanted to get a weighted blanket to see if it would help with my anxiety disorder. I've been reading about them and waiting because they are so expensive. I ended up getting a kids one because it's just for me and I wanted to use it on the couch or in bed with me. The one I got was 7 lbs.So far I like the weight of it. I did not like it when I laid it on top of me in bed. For some reason that made me feel a little claustrophobic which really is not good for anxiety. I felt like I wanted my legs free so I laid it over my torso and I liked that better. I've been using it for a few nights and I think it's sort of something you cuddle up to or sort of wrap in than just cover up with. I honestly found being covered up completely with this like a blanket to feel too confining but when I sort of wrapped it around my shoulders I did like it. To me how you use it or what you like may be an individual thing. I also kinda liked wadding it up a little behind my back. The reason I only gave this 2 stars is that first of all...out of the package it had a chemical type smell. I have chemical sensitivity so I smell things others are not bothered by, but when I ordered 100% cotton and glass beads I was not expecting any off gassing like you can get with foam products. I wanted to wash it to get rid of the smell but the label says MADE IN CHINA and to not put it in the washer or dryer and not that I would dry clean it(nasty chemicals) you can not do that either. The listing clearly says you can dry clean it, but the label says you can not....It suggests hand washing and I guess hanging to dry.I don't know about you, but who hand washes a blanket? Plus to get something out you want to be able to rinse it and spin the water out and rinse again. I was a bit annoyed that something that is supposedly just cotton and glass beads would not be able to be washed in a machine on gentle or delicate! Maybe the larger ones I would not want to machine wash but this one is smaller. Anyway to get some of the stinky chemical smell to go away I decided to put it in my steam dryer because if indeed it was just cotton fabric and glass beads there should be no issues with that. I had it set on a lower temp and watched it closely. The steam dryer did help get rid of some of the smell. The rest sort of dissipated after 24 hrs. After drying I felt the blanket and could tell there was some stuffing or batting inside the pockets and some of it might be slightly bunched. Not a big deal but batting or stuffing is rarely cotton so obviously there is some sort of poly filling or batting inside the blanket with the beads. The label says 100% cotton fabric and No lead glass beads but does not mention the batting or stuffing. It's obvious something is in there though! The other thing that for a $50 throw size weighted blanket that I was expecting was even distribution of the beads. First off it says they are in small sections and each section is bigger than my hand! I do not consider that a small section. When you hold the blanket up to the light you can see the beads which may or may not be glass(I have a little doubt since the label also says it's all cotton and obviously that's not quite right) Anyway you can see how the beads are filling the bottom of each square. Some squares had more filling than others and a couple had almost no filling at all.Overall I think the blanket is functional, I am just unhappy that for $50 it seems like I am not sure exactly what the blanket is made of. I am guessing that's what I get for a "made in china" item. Also to me the pockets are NOT filled evenly as advertised, and the pockets are also not small. To me the nicest thing about this is the sweet pattern and the outside fabric does seem to feel like cotton. I would not want to put a cover on this and even with a cover, it is going to have to go in the washer eventually. Hopefully it doesn't completely fall apart.I would love to know what exactly is inside of the squares. I am almost curious enough to cut into it and then sew it up, but for now I will just leave it be. Anyway I would rate this a little higher if they were selling it for like $25 and fully disclosed what was inside of the pockets. But as is, while I like the concept of a weighted cotton blanket filled with only glass beads, I am just not too sure that is what I purchased. Thanks for reading my reviewBecky Brooks

Massive benefits to these blankets!
I recently purchased a weighted blanket of another brand for myself, and my 16 year old daughter slept with it for one night and begged me to purchase one for her. She has had severe anxiety for years and often has a very difficult time sleeping at night. Ever since her blanket came she has been sleeping so much better....the weight is just perfect for her and the size of this blanket is honestly just right for one person. I don't think either she or I would want it to be any larger because it really is quite heavy. The weight isn't at all uncomfortable when you're laying on under it, but I could see it being very awkward to handle if the blanket itself was much larger. This blanket claims that it is "cooling" and while I wouldn't quite agree that it is "cooling", I don't find that it causes you to be overly warm either. I think a more appropriate wording would simply be that it feels fairly breathable.A word on weighted blankets in general, for those considering purchasing one for the firs time. I have had a really difficult time sleeping for many, many years and I have tried countless sleep aids to try to get some shut eye over the years. I recently stopped taking sleeping pills, as I have been wanting to get away from those and try to find some more natural methods to help me sleep, and someone suggested that I look into getting a weighted blanket. Given that I also suffer from severe restless leg syndrome, and had heard that a weighted blanket could also help with that, I decided to give it a try.WOW, WHAT a HUGE Difference! The first night I had my blanket, I woke up for the first time in years in the exact same position that I fell asleep in. According to my husband, I didn't move AT ALL during the night, and I know for a fact that I didn't wake up at all. Thinking it might have just been a fluke, I decided to give a few more nights before I made any solid opinions. Each and every night I slept like a solid rock. This hasn't happened in 15+ years! It's been about a month and a half now, and I'm still sleeping great every night. I move around less in the bed, I am no longer suffering from restless leg syndrome (and WHAT a relief THAT is!). For the first time in my adult life, I do not have to take anything to be able to sleep at night and I feel so much more rested in the mornings! Having a weighted blanket has been absolutely life changing. For those wondering if a weighted blanket can be washed easily --- we had an incident were my cat decided to make a mess right on my blanket (he's lucky to still be alive after that!)....I did try to wash it in my regular washer and it did "so so" until it got to the spin cycle.....at that point, it threw the machine off balance and I could NOT get it to drain out the rest of the water, no matter how many times I tried to re-adjust it in the machine. I ended up taking it to my local laundry mat to finish washing and drying it, and that was a breeze. I would just suggest doing that from the get-go if you happen to need to wash the blanket...it really is just too heavy for most standard washers and dryers. Also, it did not take an excess amount of time to dry...I would say about 55 minutes or so in at the laundry mat, so not too bad overall. I would still recommend a weighted blanket any day, even with the need to wash at a laundry mat, due to the massive amount of benefits to my sleep cycle. You really can't put a price on that.
