The Evolution of a great product
Full Disclosure: I was sent two of these units to test our and write a nicer user manual for (I think because of my reverse-engineering experience and love of the earlier 20A models). These new FTAN30As are great a evolution of the white 20A units. They have all the same great features like 1000ft+ range (I've tested it).. group talking + channel-to-channel, Lock-on trasmit,.. plus some great new features such as Monitor feature (like LOCK + Voice activation), Call (ringing) attention getting feature, built in LiPo cell (for operation during power outage)..Additionally, while it's not a listed new feature (and it could just be me), but the new 30A also seems to have a much better audio quality and microphone input now. On the older 20As, how far your mouth was from the microphone determined the ability for remote intercoms to understand you. Too far away it's too quiet.. Too close and it's distorted. Now it sounds much "cleaner", audio wise Even when using the 30A to transmit to the older 20As.Any yes.. they seem to be 100% compatible frequency and ABC Privacy Filter settings. I have the 20As, 30As and their hand held FPCN10A HTs too (HT = hand transceivers, but they call them "walkie talkies"). Now when our kids go outside and play in the woods, we give them a hand unit and we an hear them playing and chatting on our home intercom, so if they get into any trouble, we'll know about it.The only thing that changed with the FTAN30As that I don't care for is that they didn't put screw mount holes on the back for wall mounting (half of our intercoms in the house are wall mounted). Though if you're handy with a drill or dremel, and are not afraid to take it apart and do a little drilling.. that can probably be fixed. Or worse come to worse, I suppose some double sided foam tape might work too.
