A great bridge from textbooks to regular books
I can tell a lot of careful thought and planning has been put into this book. It is divided into 3 parts. The first part has us following someone on a trip to the Middle East. It takes the kind of subjects you've found in textbooks (what you're used to) and expands it into a story. I'm talking beginner friendly themes like travel, food, family, hobbies, etc. The authors cleverly leverage these themes into a story. The second part is a few biographies. But the reason why this book is a gem is the third part, which is the story of Ali Baba and the 40 thieves set in the modern world. The authors delicately set you up to read a true proper story, written so well that I would find it interesting enough to read even in english. It's so well written that it can stand on it's own as a normal story. It's genuinely funny and clever, and doesn't read like something deliberately written for language learners. With this, the training wheels come off. You are now ready to tackle real books. Some other things that I liked was that the authors repeat words across all the parts to reinforce them. There is audio available (the sites the book lists are down but there is an app which does work). And the illustrations are amusing.

Very good
I used this book for around six quietful months. I have to say that it was an enjoyable experience. This is divided into three parts. Stories are simple and funny. The book, however, is not for absolutely beginners or starters students. Students must know the alphabet, know some elementary rules of the language, and having the energy to read without the ḥarakāt marks. At the end, the book has a modest glossary but, in my opinion, it is not possible study all the material without a good Arabic dictionary (which implies knowing looking for into this sort of dictionaries!). At the moment, the audio is easily accessible from the audiostudyplayer website.I recommend this book for anyone who is wishing jump into real arabic language!

comprehensible and great flow
I ordered this book for myself after checking it out from my local library. I enjoyed reading this book and completing the exercises so much that I ordered one for myself. What I love about this book is that it is comprehensible and that it presents useful vocabulary in English. I have studied Arabic for nearly 10 years (on and off) and it's difficult to come across great literature for individuals learning Arabic as a second language. If you're a lover of the Arabic language or would like to improve your reading skills, this book is a must have in your Arabic literature inventory.

Difficult to Read in Kindle Version
I purchased Kindle version. In many places, it is difficult to make out the vowelling and other Arabic print features. I am unable to increase the print size. I'm reading this in a group and have seen the print version which is much more legible. Given the choice, I recommend the hard copy version. The grammatical structures are simplified. I would categorize myself as an advanced 2nd year student and have found it useful to increase vocabulary and to see the vocabulary "in action", so to speak, as different forms of Arabic roots are used. The stories are pleasant and contemporary, but not highly interesting. Most new vocab is introduced with a translation in the margin. Periodic repetition of words and seeing words in context is very useful for vocabulary building.I could not get the link to the recording to work, but a friend provided this link:[...]

Excellent book!! I wish there were more of them.
Entry level adult arabic readers are very hard to come by. I've purchased all three that I have found, and found this to be the best. The book is entertaining and has three basic sections:Jamal's Journey follows an Arab American on his first trip to the middle east. It does an excellent job of covering both vocabulary, usage and the rarest element CULTURE.Arab Characters gives short entertaining biographies of Arabs throughout history. Finally the story of "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves" is modernized and presented in manageable chunks using simplified language. All of the sections are littered with pictures, illustrations, word definitions, idiom explanations, and most importantly questions about the material to ensure you are reading critically. The material is easy enough to follow for a self-learner and the key in the back ensures you are not too far from the correct answer if stumped.

Great Supplementary Learning Material
Helped my proficiency at reading and understanding texts at the elementary level. Was recommended by my University professor and is a greatly valuable resource.

Not worth buying. Too hard to access audio.
Too hard to access the audio- I didn't end up using the book because it was too problematic. If there was a CD I would have given it a good rating. Maybe would be ok in a classroom setting where there is an Arabic speaking teacher.

Fabulous for beginners who already know their alif-ba and want to start putting them to use.
Fabulous for beginners who already know their alif-ba and want to start putting them to use. The stories aren't too interesting, but it gets the job done quickly. Definitely recommend to start your Arabic reading with this book.

Muy útil
Está muy bien si hablas inglés y tienes unos conocimientos previos de árabe. Los textos incluyen las vocales, lo cual ayuda mucho al principiante.

Amazing book but I would study Mastering Arabic 1 and ...
Amazing book but I would study Mastering Arabic 1 and 2 before tackling this book as it uses much of the vocab that you will learn in the other two books. I was very satisfied with Easy Arabic Reader. I used Mastering Arabic 1 before attending classes in Morocco. I was put in the advanced class as the skills I learned in Mastering Arabic 1 helped me jump right into Al-Kitaab instead of Alif Baa. I must say, however, that Al-Kitaab was terrible in comparison to the layout of Mastering Arabic 1 and 2.

Great pick-the best
This is one of the best study books I've ever had in Arabic. The chapters are easy to comprehend but challenging enough to learn new vocabulary. The free online version reading the chapters to you is perfect to bring with you even on your mobile to listen to whenever you need practice. Since the storyline is interesting, you get a "novel feeling" as well. I am only finished with the first few chapters and find the first review wonderful to reflect on what you have learned. Can't wait to get into the second chapter dealing with interesting and famous public figures and the third part, which is a modern version of Ali Baba. My whole life I wanted study materials like this and I want to really thank the authors who tangibly put so much thought into this.
