Its's advertised as silent as far as I remember, so no.

Q: Can I remove the plastic to access the white face?

yes,it is easy to romove ,some buyer take out and draw something they love ,if you could not find the way to remove ,coutact the seller would send you a picture to show you how to do .

Q: Is it suitable for a swimming pool area

Not as supplied. Amazing co-incidence that Amazon directed your enquiry to me, as I bought it to replace the 30 year old waterproof one that had died and a new waterproof one was ridiculously expensive. I have sealed around the piece that contains the battery and mechanism, with CT1 and duct taped over the opening including the hook aperture. Had to drill a hole in the top of clock rim to add a hook. Hopefully it will stay the course, but at price difference worth trying.
