Unicorn Things
Until recently I did not know what a Fingerling was, but having read two books based on them I now do. Although I cannot claim to understand why they need to exist. Based on the toys that can wrap around your finger 'Fingerlings Unicorn Magic' is a book all about the Unicorn variety of the toy and not the monkey version I have already seen. Both books have their good sides and bad. They are useful tools for teaching reading, but do feel a little like a shopping catalogue.'Fingerlings Unicorn Magic' is not a story as such, but an introduction to the world of Fingerlings and some of the characters contained within. The book is DK Stage 1 so it is set out as a starter book. It is certainly more advanced than the very basic readers you can get, but will aid those who are happy to start trying for themselves. The issue with the book is not how it is laid out, but the contents. No one other than a true Fingerlings fan is going to want to read the book as it is almost a dry encyclopeadia of what a Unicorn Fingerling is.The entire thing is a nice little hardback and in full colour. The words are bold on the page and easy to read, just not of the greatest merit. To a fan the book will work and if you know a reluctant reader who is also Fingerling fan, this could just be the book that gets them bitten by the reading bug.

Fingerlings Unicorn Magic
I was asked if I’d like to review Fingerlings Unicorn Magic (DK Readers Level 1) by Tori Kosara, and I said yes. This hardback book has 24 pages and I’d say the reading age for this is 4 to 6 years old.The book has large print and lovely colourful illustrations. My youngest loves unicorns and couldn’t wait to read this book. She’s in her first year at school and this is ideal for her. You’re little one is introduced to a group of unicorns that live in a little village, and they all have special powers.Granted there isn’t much of a story, but you have to remember at this age youngsters don’t have much of an attention span, (they’d rather look at pictures and play with things). My youngster loved this and in the end, she wanted me to make up stories about the toys she had.I can recommend this book.

No story, just an introduction to the characters
This book (slightly bigger than A5 sized) has large print, an index, and a quiz at the back. I'm not familiar with fingerlings myself but this seems to be an introduction to the characters Gigi, Skye, Stella, Alika, Gemma and Molly. The pictures are photos of the fingerling toys being held in human hands or on human fingers - I can't help but think that drawings would have looked a lot nicer than photos of plastic toys!I guess for any fingerling crazed child it's probably just another item for the collection but I can't help feel that at £5 its overpriced for a book of photos and just a bit of narrative, no actual story.

Colourful and fun
If you’ve heard of the Fingerlings toys which were a popular craze, now you can find out more about them with this book. This is a simple early reader taking you through all the unicorn characters with short sentences, colourful pictures, and a little quiz at the back. It’s hardback, but small - less than a4.My little girl enjoyed learning about all the characters, seeing each of their names, personalities and different colours. There is also a monkey version of this, and a new fingerlings sticker book which we also got

a good introduction to fingerlings
Fingerlings Unicorn Magic (DK Readers Level 1) written by Tori Kosara is an introduction for young children to the Fingerlings franchise which has become very popular.I found it an OK read but it was one which was quickly passed over as our younger kids know everything they want to know about Fingerlings and they felt as did I that there was nothing new within this brightly illustrated book. Though she did like how each character was well described and she now can tell her friends exactly what each one stands for!
