This really does protect the kindle. My 4,2, and 1 year old have done just about anything you can think of to my kindle and it is still in perfect condition.

This is a decent durable case that will protect the Kindle 7" 2013 HDX from drop damage and the screen from fingerprint smudges and scratches. It is NOT WATERPROOF.The screen face detaches by snapping off for easy cleaning, but it is definitely not sealed against water. A little water dripped onto the screen and when it touched where the edge snaps onto the silicone, it actually sucked water into the seam and onto the Kindle. I had to remove the screen and gently fold back the blue camo edges to remove water from between the case and the unit. Fortunately, that time, it did not suck around the edges and behind the unit.Additionally, the face snaps on too tightly and makes the clear screen create suction marks on the face, which greatly reduces visibility. Another customer commented on this on the green camo model, saying her kiddo kept trying to wipe off the "dirty" for his younger brother. We've been able to remedy this somewhat by not snapping on the top and bottom, and just leaving the edges snapped on, but it doesn't eliminate it wholly. My biggest concern about this is that the tightness over time may damage the screen or internal components. The small instructional insert that came with the product clearly states that the manufacturer is not responsible for damage caused to the unit by contact from the product with the device, so any damage that might result will be solely the customer's responsibility and not covered under warranty.Touch responsiveness is very good. I noticed little, if any, reduced touch response with the screen on, even when not snapped on fully at the top and bottom of the unit.We bought this case mostly for the drop protection since our first Kindle dropped on a concrete floor and the screen shattered. This unit protects the Kindle very well against drops, noted by how the replacement Kindle sustained zero damaged when dropped again on the same concrete floor.Given all these things, I rate this product a 4 out of 5 stars and would probably buy again.
