The concept of Active Birth is so intuitive and it completely transformed my own birth experience from a traumatic first time - lying on my back with all the drugs - to an amazing quick, natural upright birth second time around. This handbook is a really practical guide with lots of information about common interventions and drugs that can be used in birth, and how to ensure that you don't let them slow down your labour. It is a great educational tool for research before birth as we have all heard of epidural but who actually knows what they are? Midwives don't tell you and half the time we have them with no understanding of what they do and the impact they have on our bodies and births. Janet Balaskas has a lovely writing style that is both informative and factual, but also chatty and accessible and gives really clear advice on everything from pain relief, to water birth.
