## Description

An desertcart Charts, Wall Street Journal , and Washington Post bestseller, and a Goodreads Choice Award finalist. In this gorgeously stunning debut, a mysterious child teaches two strangers how to love and trust again. After the loss of her mother and her own battle with breast cancer, Joanna Teale returns to her graduate research on nesting birds in rural Illinois, determined to prove that her recent hardships have not broken her. She throws herself into her work from dusk to dawn, until her solitary routine is disrupted by the appearance of a mysterious child who shows up at her cabin barefoot and covered in bruises. The girl calls herself Ursa, and she claims to have been sent from the stars to witness five miracles. With concerns about the child’s home situation, Jo reluctantly agrees to let her stay—just until she learns more about Ursa’s past. Jo enlists the help of her reclusive neighbor, Gabriel Nash, to solve the mystery of the charming child. But the more time they spend together, the more questions they have. How does a young girl not only read but understand Shakespeare? Why do good things keep happening in her presence? And why aren’t Jo and Gabe checking the missing children’s website anymore? Though the three have formed an incredible bond, they know difficult choices must be made. As the summer nears an end and Ursa gets closer to her fifth miracle, her dangerous past closes in. When it finally catches up to them, all of their painful secrets will be forced into the open, and their fates will be left to the stars.

Review: Wonderful fanciful story!!! - I loved this book! Such an impactful theme that was well written and moving in its message! Buy the book!
Review: Ursa will make you believe in Magic. - This book is just beautiful. I absolutely loved Ursa. She’s the most adorable precocious child. About 3/4 of this book is just a delightful read I would give 5 stars. It does get a bit murkier for the ending but still a great read. The author wrote such a great book that I was very surprised to read her bio at the end of the book and find out it was her first book. I loved her slow romance with Jo and Gabe. Both are people who are reticent and a bit prickly. The author did a great job of building up to their chemistry. Some authors invent roadblocks to try a slow burn that does not work but this one does. They are both great characters that you want to find love. That romance though is very secondary to the real story. This novel is about a lost little girl who needs to be loved. I love her stories and unique perspective. I originally read a sample of this when debating my Kindle First Read choices for February but I chose a different book I thought would be more suspenseful and my style. I quickly regretted that decision and kept wondering how this story turned out. I am so glad I went back and bought this book. I did find the legal ramifications mentioned so much to be far too overblown. I did not see any references to anyone with legal knowledge in her Acknowledgments which could have helped her with this. There were also some characters and family drama that were resolved too quickly for the ending. Also drew a big obvious clue about her origins that I don’t think Jo would have ignored. Honestly though those are small issues for a debut author who wrote a book that is mostly a joy to read. It was a unique concept with a wonderful central character who makes you believe. I highly recommend this novel.

I had trouble putting it down, and when I did I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I loved all the characters, especially Ursa, and thought the ending was special.
