I purchased this lunch kit for my son. He prefers bringing a heated entree, but also likes cold items. So, I really liked that this lunch kit offered the option of both hot and cold compartments at the same time. It included two heat packs. It would have been even better if it included atleast one cooling pack, especially since the hot section will overcome both compartments once heated making any cold items warm, as well. Also, with the slanted top compartment, you lose a bit of carrying space. It makes it difficult to utilize the top with larger containers. However, I was able to find reusable, side item containers (6"x4.5"x2.5") to fit the top. He's able to use the side item container with the heat pack or get an 11.5 oz protein shake, 8 oz juice bottle, and protein bar or fruit cup in the top (minus the cooling pack). The bottom is quite spacious and offers more options. The limit is really the length/width, not the height. He can put all the above, including both fruit cup and protein bar, and a 16.9 oz water bottle with a thin ice pack or a heat pack with a reusable, entree container (7.5"x5"x3") and a bit more room is still available for something extra. Overall, a great purchase.

With schools going back to paid lunch I wanted something so I could send hot lunches from time to time. We tried during summer camp. I would warm the packs between 630 and 640, my son typically ate around 1230. Everyday he used he said his food was warm enough to eat. He has taken chicken parm sandwich, chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, leftovers, corn dogs, just to name a few.My only con is I'm not loving the actual lunch box it's self, it's hard to fine a container that will fit in the top smaller compartment with the lava packs. If I put the hot meal in the bottom compartment it fits, but the top compartment is not big enough for his drink and snacks. Also im curious how long these will last if they are used daily. I wish you could just buy the packs. Overall I am happy with this as it will give my son some warm lunch options.

Pros: It does keep the food warm; it's spacious; the divider is a nice way to keep food separated.Cons: Heating the lava rocks in 30-second increments gets old, especially if you're handling more than one lunchbox (I have two kids using them); The divider between the top and bottom part of the lunchbox does not insulate one for the other, so you have to add an ice pack to prevent the top food from getting warm. You lose space that way and you cool off your lava rock because it's against an ice pack; the lava rocks start getting lumpy and no longer melt the substance inside of them after about six months.When my children went back to school in person, they lost the use of the microwave, so I had to figure out a way to keep their lunches warm. This lunchbox is spacious and the lava rocks really worked, initially. They kept the food temperature great. The problem is that in the morning, you're heating up those lava rocks 30 seconds at a time for 2-2:30 minutes each. There are two of those per lunchbox, which comes to almost 5-6 minutes per lunchbox. That's nothing when you're not pressed for time, but when you're hurrying in the morning, it adds to the stress. Also, after a month, one of the lava rocks puffed up to the size of a lemon halfway through the cycle. It came back to almost normal after a while, but it was never the same shape. Now all of my lava rocks have some kind of lump on them. They heat up but the material inside, which used to melt and get runny is no longer melting. So I guess we have to replace the lava rocks every six months or so. I'd also like to see some kind of insulation between the top and the bottom (cork maybe?) so I could better keep the foods from one section from heating up with the heat from the other section.

As an adult I often find myself throwing my lunch into a plastic grocery bag and calling it good. I work several different jobs and I am usually running back and forth between them and it can be difficult to keep track of where I will be on what day. Some days I have access to a microwave and other days I dont. I cant tell you how many times I've packed leftovers that needed to be warmed up and didnt have access to a microwave. I've tried warming my lunch by leaving it on the dashboard of my car and as hopeful as I try to be that doing so will really warm my food, its just not the same. Until recently, I havent been putting much thought into my workday meals in an effort to avoid the frustration of trying to keep straight when I will be near a microwave and when I am working outside. Lava Lunch Box has absolutely changed my outlook on lunch.At first I was skeptical that any lunch box could really keep your food warm from the time you leave home until it's time to eat lunch at work and Lava Lunch Box blew me away. I usually eat a later lunch, and even after seven hours, my meal was still warm! The concept is so simple and so straight forward and the lunch box is tough and well built. Not only does it have a compartment for your hot food - there is also an area for you to keep cold items which is perfect for me. It is just the right size for me to take my lunch and a few snacks to munch on during the day. My coworkers have given me many compliments on the serious upgrade to my lunch box. I highly recommend the Lava Lunch Box because of the phenomenal job that this lunch box does at making lunch time special again. This lunch box is perfect anyone in any situation who would like to have hot lunch any day, at any time, regardless of the circumstances.In addition to this being the best lunch box I have ever had the pleasure of using - I also received excellent customer service from the seller. My son is so happy my picky eater can have a hot lunch again as the schools removed the microwaves for COVID reasons. Stayed hot for at least 4 hours and the rock was still warm that night.

Nice lunchbox although a bit on the small side but I knew that by the description.My issue is that is breaking down already. The handle doesn't seem to be sturdy enough for the lunchbox to be carried everyday, this is my son's school lunchbox and he's been carrying to and from school everyday for the past month. That's it, no more travelling than that and it's not like he's carrying heavy loads either!

Very disappointed in this purchase for the money spent was a total waste.Does not keep hot at all the packs don’t heat up correctly followed instructions and required heat up time and still doesn’t keep warm.Can’t risk heating them up any longer as that would cause the heat packs to explode.
