Good value for money, low-cost solution for analogue conversion of digital-only sources
The first impression this DAC converter gives, is build quality: feels positively solid for such a small box, and the parts look more expensive than what the retail price suggests.Installation is very simple, the power supply is provided (other devices use USB and the power brick is not included) and it all works faultless with no hum or noise, using RCA cable to an XLR amplifier input is incredibly quiet. My needs were to convert the TV digital output (has HDMI and Toslink) to analogue, for connecting a smart telly to a traditional integrated amplifier that has no digital inputs. This proved to be an easy and low-cost solution, giving a more than decent audio quality. With a Krell amplifier/Mission speakers/QED cables even YouTube music sounds ok and far better than BT streaming. My only gripe is the design: it's a bit annoying to have cables coming from both the front and the rear!It should be done so that all the "heavy" cables (HDMI, Toslink and RCA) stay on the back, with the front panel having only the power led and the input switch. The "headphone" output should be renamed "line output" since it's not adjustable, and is very handy when connecting active speakers, those most often have the 3.5mm stereo jack connection.

Brilliant, I love this box
I have a Samsung smart TV. It's so smart, it doesn't have a balanced audio-out on it (well, that would cost Samsung nearly £1 to include it!). That is a real annoyance if you want an independent audio-out to run hi-fi or, in my case, a headphone amp. The "gurus" in Currys sold me a Bluetooth receiver with a balanced audio out, but that isn't great for a variety of reasons. This little piece of kit resolves my requirements. I connect an optical cable from the TV into the "in" side of the box, then on the "out", I connect another optical cable to my soundbar, and then a cable from the phono sockets of the box into my headphone amp. Virtually no latency, unlike the original Bluetooth device and with only marginal loss of volume. I have also experimented with connecting the 3.5 audio out socket from the box with my hifi, and that seems to work pretty well, although if find there is a tiny amount of latency. This box is brilliant, I love it.One minor suggestion regarding the Amazon pictures, I think it would be clearer if it were made obvious that the main photo shows two identical boxes, one stacked on top of the other. The item is just one small box, with input on one side and output on the other.

Excellent except for the included power supply
This unit works well - when used for optical pass-through and audio output via 3.5mm socket. Unfortunately, when using the included 5v power supply, significant mains hum is audible on the output. Replacing this power supply with another (Apple USB charger) with appropriate (purchased for this purpose) cable, removes this problem. Be warned!

Nice product, as described!!
I purchased this for use on a Samsung tv. I had a speaker that took stereo jack but the tv only had an hdmi (arc), and optical out. So I used this to convert hdmi arc to analogue. This was then taken via a 3.5 mm lead stereo cable to my speaker to amplify.Needs to be plugged into its own power. And there is unfortunately no on-off switch or volume switch on this product. Only a selector switch to toggle between various inputs.Output was good. Occasional crackles probably due to my leads... otherwise ok. Value for money! All in all, does what it says!!

Cheap in price, but not in quality
I was looking for a simple digital coaxial to optical (toslink) converter, and discovered this fantastic little box of tricks on Amazon. It`s not only a digital to digital (including HDMI sources) converter, but also a digital to analogue converter, therefore combining everything in one box when previously I would have needed two. At this price I would have expected, and been satisfied with, a cheap plastic box, but it`s actually made of very sturdy metal. It took a couple of minutes to set up, the design is simple and logical - inputs, including power supply socket, at the front, outputs at the rear. Apart from an analogue input, I couldn`t ask for more.

No ARC HDMI VOLUME CONTROL
Before you buy this item bear in mind although there is an HDMI (ARC) input it is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Even if you connect it to your TV hdmi (ARC) your tv remote will NOT control the volume. you will still have to do that by what ever you have it outputted to.

Works a treat
I bought a sound base to improve the audio output of my TV. However, stupidly, I broke the optical audio (Toslink) socket on my TV (which I have since learnt is easily done) and so couldn’t connect my sound base. Have now resolved my problem with this converter, by connecting the sound base to the converter with the Toslink connector and converter to the TV with HDMI ARC connection. It only took a few minutes to set up and worked perfectly. Having spent two weeks fretting over my problem this little unit made me very happy.
