Very nice way to reintroduce my self and introduce my son to the flute
I'm going through this book after a break of about 30 years of playing flute to reintroduce myself and I'm impressed by the way it walks through step by step and reinforces learning to read music as it goes along. Granted, I used to be able to do it, but am finding the way the book handles it to be very useful in re-calibrating my brain and fingers to the art. My 10 year old is starting flute, and is also using it, and is excited by the quick progress he is able to make as he works his way through the first few notes. The way the book builds on skills and notes seems to be working well for him in learning finger movement and the musical notations.

Good Book.
Good Book, I am teaching myself how to play the flute, the most excellent suggestion was to spend only 15 minutes a practice session and have several practice sessions through out the day. I would also keep a log so you see how much time you have put into it, so it will encourage you to have the attitude "well I came this far I can go a little farther"

Beware similar fingering for A and B in lesdon 2 and 3!!!
In the copy sent me, the fingering for the A note in lesson is the same as for the B note in lesson 3!! i'd not known this if i had not purchased the E-book version previously but does not fit on my music stand. Unfortunately there is no way to get a corrected book, or refund for this copy with errors.

How to play the Flute
I love this book a lot. It walks me through the process of how to play the Flute,fingerings,embushore,etc... I’ve been a Clarinet player since 6th through 12th grades. I love learning new things.

Excellent book, but what's next?
This book was excellent. Unfortunately there is not a second part. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good book to get next that builds on what was learned in this book?

Not great as a stand alone beginner book
This was the first book I bought to help me learn flute as an adult. At first I enjoyed it very much but as I began to progress through the notes I found that I was getting really frustrated and wasn't making a lot of progress on my tone. It wasn't until I bought another book to complement my practice that I realised that in order to really work on tone and fingering you need a LOT of different music to practice with. This book has about 2 pieces of music to practice each new note before moving onto the next one which I found just wan't enough variety to keep me engaged and to help me develop my tone. It's also worth noting that this book teaches the B flat using the thumb key fingering but only shows the alternate fingering at the end of the book. I have found that the B flat without the thumb key is much easier for me than using the thumb key and this might be the case for other learners too. This book does have great pictures and explanations and I really like the fingering charts in this book and it is very useful in that respect but it is lacking a large enough variety of music to enable the beginner to really work on tone, breathing, fingering and music reading. I think perhaps if you follow the lessons exactly as they are set out in this book without any other resources you might end up moving forward too quickly with new notes before your tone and fingering has caught up. This is certainly what I noticed in my own practice.A great book to use in conjunction with other books/teacher but not so good as a stand alone beginner book.

Descriptive but didn't play example videos
I really like it. Very descriptive. I'm not a beginner but I havent played in a very long while. Unfortunately the music videos don't play? Is this common with the kindle version on iPads? Should i read from a mobile instead?
