Exactly what I was looking for

I recently watched on TCM the famous TAMI concert that is best known for The Rolling Stones following right after James Brown, both delivering the kind of performances that made them superstars. Well, Leslie Gore was also in that show. Hearing some of her famous hits again reminded me that those songs were among the best songs recorded in the early and mid-1960s. So I decided to get a Gore greatest hits album and chose "The Essential Collection". A very excellent record full of songs that are still excellent today. Gore had the magic and she shared it with us. My only regret is that I'm old enough to say I first heard these songs when they were first played on the radio! G. Richard Bozarth

I liked 12 songs on this one. The Judy one is funny. It's a sequel to "It's My Party". I did not know there was one. The song she sings in "Ski Party" is also on there.

CD packaged carefully and sent promptly. Very satisfied.

このＣＤに収録されてる曲の半分以上が先の読めない変なコード進行だ！(不協和音系ではありません)この頃の定番の「必ずヒットする黄金の循環コード」とは全然違います！一体何のメリットがあってアイドル歌手のポップソングをこんなにひねくれたコード進行にするのかが全く理解できません(笑)つい最近ビートルズの事を「元祖変態コード進行」と言ったばかりなのだが、これを聴いたら考えが少し変わってしまった(以前からIt`s my partyが凄い曲だと思ってたのでこれを購入)時代的には1963年以降なのでビートルズの1stアルバムより少し後なのだが、この時点でアメリカの作曲家はまだビートルズを知らなかっただろうし、ビートルズも1stの時点ではそんなにひねくれたコード進行ではないからだ。(結局の所1番興味深いのは、ジョンレノンがこの曲を聴いたのかどうかという事)一体誰がこんな凄い曲を作ったんだ？と思って作曲者のクレジットを見たらそれぞれ違う名前でした。不思議です！まるで同じ人が作ったかの様な共通した「変態性」があるからだ。となると作曲者よりもむしろアレンジを担当していた人間が凄いという事になる。これは今こそ高く評価するべきではないだろうか。ロック評論家はこのレビューをパクって下さい！レスリー・ゴーアなんて変態コード進行には興味の無いオールディーズ収集家しか聴かないでしょうから。

Some good tracks. Quick delivery

There are many great compilations of Lesley Gore's music out there - but what makes this one SO SPECIAL is the fact that the quality is top notch. Obviously mastered from original tapes and done with the care that an artist like Lesley Gore's catalogue deserves as well. As a long time record collector of vinyl I love it when I can up-grade to CD and get actual CD quality sound, which is rare these days, as too many OTHER things I've purchased by many artists, including other Lesley Gore compilations sound like rubbish mastered from poor quality ratchy vinyl full of pops and surface noise, played on a turntable with a worn out needle with sound level distortion engrained in each song. Not this one. The Quality is great. Apart from "California Nights" I pretty much have all of this music on vinyl, so it's nice to get CD quality when you pay for it and to be able to truly up-grade your sound quality for a change. This CD was mastered with the love and care it deserves and that fact shows. Oh, the music. That is top notch as always. Pretty much everything Lesley did was solid gold in my view. I'm surprised that only a few of her songs reached #1, because about 16 out of the 18 songs on here deserved to be #1 chart smashes. You've got all the hits and more. It's My Party, the follow-up - Judy's Turn To Cry, She's A Fool, You Don't Own Me, That's The Way Boys Are, I Don't Wanna Be A Loser, Maybe I Know, Sometimes I Wish I Was A Boy, Look Of Love, All My Life, Sunshine Lollipops And Rainbows, My Town My Guy And Me, I Won't Love You Anymore (Sorry), her cover of the classic Young Love, Summer And Sandy, and of course California Nights.... This woman's walls should be lined from end to end with gold records...

I had this as an album in the early 70's so decided to buy again in CD form. It is a bit dated but still nostalgic to listen to.

The essential collection of Lesley Gore is a really great listening experience but like most compilations, is what the guy who compiled it thought and not necessarily what you might think. The album does have some of the greats but leaves out others, however there is enough foot and hand tapping music to see an hour go by especially with repeats of some tracks. ' Maybe I know ' has always been my favourite Lesley Gore song and it never looses appeal along with ' Thats the way boys are ' and ' Sunshine and lollypops.' If you look at all the old Lesley Gore film and video clips of her belting out these songs in the early 60's on You Tube, surrounded by an idolising audience mainly of boys it is hard to imagine that she is a lesbian, virtually all her songs were about her 'boyfriends,' how much she loved them and how they didn't treat her well!Some of the early clips of her singing songs like ' It's my party ' and ' I'll cry if I want to ' and 'maybe I know ' it is hard to believe that she is only sixteen! with the kind of hairdo, make up and clothing of the early sixties she looks as though she is at least in her thirties!You will enjoy many of these hits and many of the more quirky songs on this memory laden, nostalgic album. I read recently that Lesley Gore is still going and doing live concerts, she must be in her sixties by now so good on her!Anyone buying this album will probably already know most of the songs and be buying it for a ' down memory lane ' listening experience but it is still a great collection of songs and many teenagers of today would still find some of these haunting songs ( with lyrics you can actually hear and understand ) really good, the content of most songs are relevant to todays teens, they never change, Oh! the joys of the teenage years!Order a copy, you will not be disappointed, you will just want to get hold of some more Lesley Gore songs!
