Why he's no fun, he fell right over.
As in life itself, a delicate balance is called for. This stand is not bad for acoustic guitars, both of mine fitting almost perfectly between the uprights and the little swiveling fingers in front. For thinner instruments, like solid body electrics, there's a ton of extra space, and no adequate way to adjust. (the diagram says the "front pads adjust," but they really don't. The little rubber skid pads slide back and forth about an inch or so, but the minimum thickness is 4.5"). In any event, DO NOT USE THIS for anything with its center of gravity north of the equator, or even above the stand's central pivot. My Hofner-style (admittedly neck heavy) bass fell off, fortunately suffering no evident damage. There's nothing to hold the instrument upright except the questionable friction from the rubber pad on the center pivot. Even extended to maximum, it doesn't come up very high, and lends little support if your instrument is not perfectly plumb. The width of the central pivot ("pull legs apart just enough to rest your instrument" -- is that dirty?) relies on friction alone, and not much of that. So I'm not using it for my bass again, and I'm sure not going to trust it with anything expensive, like my Mastertone banjo. I'll restrict this one to my dreadnoughts.Someone wrote that this folds up and stores in his guitar case. Well, no, it doesn't It's pretty compact when folded, but it's not going inside any hard case I've ever seen. Possibly a big outside pocket on a gig bag. Or maybe he meant instead of his guitar? [Follow up 12/05/15: I sort of stand corrected. Just last night I found I was able to slip this stand into the headstock section of an ancient semi-hard cardboard case for my 12-string, with just barely enough room for the guitar above it. Hardly ideal, but it did work. Note that none of my other genuine hard shell cases (for guitar, bass, or banjo) has anywhere near enough room.]And for those few of you who recognize the reference in my title: "Shoes for Industry."

Stable for heavier Bass guitars and Compact
I recently bought a new electric bass and needed a more compact stand than I already have yet it still needed to be a sturdy stand. After purchasing another gold up compact stand I had to send back, I tried this because of the one main feature it had different: the back support can extend higher! Since bass guitars are about 20% heavier than electric guitars, my bass being a 5 string did not seem very steady in a similar stand where the back support did not extend higher. No matter what I did it seemed the bass was on the verge of tipping over backwards. NOT in this stand.PROS:COMPACT SIZE! It folds up quite small to fit into a guitar caseSupport back extends for larger, heavier guitar which makes it more stableSoft rubber padding on contact points is very important. I'm still mad at one stand I have had that gouged a deep scratch in the back of one of my mahogany guitars. So there's no danger of that with this stand.Front brace has little nubs that you can use to make sure your guitar doesn't go sliding off the front. They are adjustable.Very stable for a compact stand.CON: the extended back I noticed doesn't have a lock feature so it could potentially get knocked/slide down but it doesn't seem likely it will.*see attached images of my guitar in the stand and how it folds down.

Excellent.
I bought two of these for the two fiddles that I own, with the goal of playing them more frequently and so far it has worked. These stands were actually recommended by amazon while I was shopping for similar products and it was a good choice. As mentioned, I’m using these for fiddle but they are fully adjustable for a wide range if stringed instruments yet fold down compactly enough to fit in a case or backpack. There is soft, grippy rubber where the stand meets the instrument and I have not worried about the fiddles falling out of them. In addition, there are two rotating tabs at the front of the stand’ for extra security for larger instruments. I doubt I’ll ever take them out of my house but I’m sure they would be good for that use too. As I’ve only had them a short time, I’ll be sure to update this review if needed. Regardless, these seem to be an excellent value for the money.

YMC guitar stand
This is my 2nd guitar stand I purchased just being curious to compare with my other so called Center Way aluminum guitar stand (half plastics) at $10 dollars less. Turned out this stand is exactly the same as my more expensive aluminum stand. They're not all aluminum. The leg extensions and the guitar support extensions are plastics much like my other more expensive aluminum stand. The pads are rubber that prevent the guitar from sliding and falling. This stand comes in 4 colors and I chose the blue to distinguish it from my other so called aluminum (plastic) guitar stand. They both fold to the same size. Oh, you don't get a cheap bag like my other stand but it's no big deal. It's very lightweight and easy to carry by hand or inside a backpack. Price is lower making it a better buy in my book. Save your $10 if you're looking for an aluminum guitar stand.

Great Little Stand for the Money
So far, I like these stands a lot--I've bought 3 for my instruments. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars id due to the little stops on the front. The idea of adjustable stops to prevent your instrument from sliding off the stand is a good one. I think these are a little small to do an effective job for larger instruments such as a large guitar. (I keep ukuleles on the stands.)It's a great little stand for the money. It folds up into a very compact size for travel or storage.

Small and functional for electrics.
If small kids, dogs, and/or drunk people are running and rolling around your guitar, don't use this. The guitar is kept in place by friction, so this is not the safest guitar stand by design.Otherwise, enjoy nice small footprint. It might be safer than you woud think, the rubber pad doesn't slip in my experience. I've been using this one for my electric at my house for 6 months (and another similar one for 1.5 years). Nobody in the household (me, my wife and kids) never managed to knock my guitar out of these.
