Beyond expectations
This is an amazing sword for practice and maybe use, I’m not sure how it will sharpen and don’t anticipate being in any life or death sword fights that would require be to do so. When I first got it, I’d planned on sending it back and replacing it with a less flashy sword or one that looked and felt more functional to my western mind. The Jain I got at first was very well tailored to a western mind and I started my practice with it. The only reason for getting another Jain was that the sword felt too short. I’m practicing yang form Tai Chi and Wudang as a way of keeping in shape and meditation.Because I’ve practiced with a sword, I knew this sword was superior for my purposes. What would have been a compliant would be that the case doesn’t lock the sword in tight enough and the case wasn’t heavy enough. This is because in my first month of training I would do the yang form in a trance state, slower, and with my muscles fully tensed similar to a hard style martial art with things I added from Russian combat training. It’s not an efficient way to train the Jain, to my current understanding. The reasons would probably be obvious to someone that is interested in this review, but explosions of power are more a distraction with sword training, and the use of muscle strength over structural and mind strength feel counter productive. The feel is nearly pure “internal” thus it is more productive to train with just the Jain and your mind. I save the physical training for Wing Chan and the qigong of the secrete sword at this point. The twisting and thrusting motions carry over well. The weight and balance seem perfect. It is a joy to train with and shopping can ruin training. This sword feels perfect and sturdy to my hands. So there is no more need to shop, just to train. If you are not collecting toys to impress your friends, that it all you want. This sword delivers more than that as it doesn’t lack in beauty.
