I have 18" to 18.5" calves and never had high boots until I discovered 'extra wide calf' boots were a thing! I did my research digging into reviews and product descriptions, and measured my calves (they're a half inch different sizes N) to make sure that what I ordered would fit, and I'm not disappointed! I read a review for these that stated they were tighter at first and then stretched a bit, which is exactly right. They're lined with fuzzy fabric until the top inch or so, which is the same material as the outside of the boot. At first that part got stuck on my slightly sweaty legs (it was hot!), but I stretched the opening by hand just by pulling with my hands and they slid on very nicely. A bit harder to remove, but that will improve over time, I'm sure. These have a slightly tapered top, which is extremely flattering to my calves, and even though they seem skin tight, I can still easily slide them over leggings. They're very comfortable compared to other inexpensive boots I've had- a nice feet to the foot and heel. The boots are beyond excellent. I have an athletic build with 18" calves and a size 10 shoe; My whole life has been one nightmare after another in shoe stores struggling with boots that were simply not designed for anyone like me. I figured it would be a long shot to find a boot on Amazon that worked, but it was worth taking a risk at this price point. Some of the previous reviews for this boot were critical of the boot size or the calf size, or the quality of the shoe - I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at the high level of performance of these boots on all of those points.The shoe portion of the boot is stiff but generous enough that I can wear a sports sock and still have reasonable room for my arches. The shaft of the boot is snug with thicker sports leggings on underneath. The material is firm at the foot and comfortable at the upper calf. The stitching and soles are definitely assembled in a solid fashion. As a previous reviewer said, at the top of the shaft the fit flares slightly, and this is very flattering to the thighs. I was SO THRILLED by these boots and the price, that I bought the same size in the two other colors.I see a lot of potential for these boots to make my life significantly better. In terms of fashion, they are stunning. In terms of functionality, I am hoping that there are kids in my near future and I believe these boots will be super easy to make any outfit look polished and professional while on the go. I am also excited about picking up some gorgeous pencil skirts and trying out a new fashion statement in 2017. As far as riding boots go, I would wear these for a beginner's western trail ride but nothing more. They do have a heel that would help keep you in the saddle, but the flare at the top allows too much wiggle in the shaft for any serious riding. They would keep some friction between you and the saddle but would slip too much at the leg for controlling the horse.All around, I couldn't be happier and I hope this manufacturer keeps making this product for the rest of my life. I'm 5ft7 250 with a hefty 20 inch calf. I had no problems sliding these on and zipping them up. I was prepared to be disappointed. Boots are not a a big calf girls friend. I am 100% happy with the boot, the material, the style, the color n most of all the fit.
