Limited fun
We teach mandarin to our daughter, and a mandarin speaking dolls are hard to find. This one is not bad, but the amount of phrases is very limited and I don't like that she translates everything into English.

Ling Chinese Doll
I bought this doll for my daughter when she was 2 years old. She loved it so much that she carried it everywhere. It speaks several Chinese words which she has learned. I would highly recommend it.

We've had fun and no problems with Ling
We bought Ling for our 5 year old daughter who we recently adopted from China. Since she already spoke Mandarin she used it to learn some English phrases. Now that she can speak English, she just enjoys hearing Mandarin correctly pronounced! We had heard that there were problems with durability but we have not had any and we have played vigorously for 5 months now..I want the Spanish speaking doll since our daughter is learning Spanish too.

Not durable
My daughter, then age 1, received Chinese Ling for a gift, but the electronics began to malfunction less than a year later. I am very disappointed. It is a great idea though, and the phrases and tones are accurate. I would consider buying another, but it's a bit costly at $35 with no assurance that it would last.

Very cute, but not dependable!
I actually have owned two of these dolls, both of which were the French-speaking "Jolie". They are adorable, fun, and a cute, motivating way to teach languages. As a French teacher, I was so excited to give this to my daughter. I was VERY disappointed when the first doll started to malfunction after about a week. I returned it by mail & received a new one, only to have it stop working after 2-3 months. I give up! My daughter still likes to hold & play with her, so I guess I'll just have to fill in the French vocabulary that our doll no longer offers!

Ling speaks surprisingly well.
After reading the negative reviews how she didn't work, I was worried when I placed the order. But, upon arrival, I honestly found it amusing that the only trouble I had with Ling was replacing the existing weak batteries with new ones. And, yes, that last battery was so deep down in the speech module that I thought I might have to perform a colon-ectomy on a doll. That aside, my grand-daughter was tickled pink to find that Ling talked to her. Ling is unique and not too pricey a purchase. Delivery was prompt, too.

great gift
I bought this doll for an 8-year-old who had just come to the US from China and speaks no English. She just loves this doll, and it's like a security blanket for her, which she always has when she's around others who don't speak her language. It allows her the ability to know some key phrases, which she can hear in Chinese and then say outloud in English. It's a good beginning teaching tool as well.
