Beautiful
Looks and sounds great. I look the warm sound of the tube amp. The radio is good, but the best use is playing my iPod with the built in bluetooth. It really gives a great and smooth sound to the digital music.

and loved its quality of sound
I am a vintage radio restorer, and a radio nut. I also listen to music via radio, Internet radio, or via Bluetooth from my smartphone every day. Because I am also a musician, I care about the quality of sound, especially in a device which does not supply EQ settings.I bought this radio to use at home, and loved its quality of sound, workmanship, and performance so much, that I just bought another to use in my office. The sound quality is wonderful, from the lows to the highs, and the volume range is adequate. I am re-discovering broadcast radio in my area (Colorado, USA) because of this radio.Besides the sound, I love the look and feel of the main dial, and the tube display on the lower part of the front panel. The combination of modern electronics with vintage style, including quality of the cabinet and feel of the controls, is superb.

I was told that they didn't make e'm like this anymore!
Beware that this is a BIG radio. Heavy, too. But appears to have solid build quality. Not only that, but the wood cabinet truly is a piece of fine furniture. Again, it feels solid, and I could even detect a faint odor of wood polish. No plastic radio, this. The tuner works well, even with a minimal antenna. The "feel" of the tuning knob is nicely weighted and the color temperature of the dial light is perfectly selected to help take the user back to the radios of yesteryear. The sound? Outstanding. No, the laws of physics have not been repealed. Stereo separation, given the short distance between them is not a strong suit. The tone was described as "warm" in the ad, which lead me to believe that perhaps it was going to be a muddled mess. It is not. I would characterize the sound as "sweet", not unlike my 2A3 SET amp. Highs sparkling, mid-range is well-defined and the base is polite. Women jazz vocalists (June Christie, Anita O'Day, Peggy Lee as example) sound superb.Pricey, yes. And beware that as a nightside radio...you're going to need a pretty big nightstand. To me, the quality construction, beautiful finish and bountiful audio make this an odds-on favorite as a future family heirloom.

Looks pretty - terrible radio.
It is very pretty looking, that much I'll admit, and hence the second star. The radio is garbage though. The tuner is completely unusable, as it constantly goes out of tuning and makes weird loud noises even on very strong stations. The electronics inside are the cheapest Chinese garbage there is. The selector knob breaks after using it maybe 50 times. We use it as a bluetooth speaker since the radio is so annoying, which is sad, because I wanted a radio, not a bluetooth speaker. Giant waste of money.

*UPDATE- Originally written for Tesslor R601S on May 9, 2013*<excerpted/ edited from my review posted to Herculodge>As with any radio, it has its strengths and weaknesses, but the Tesslor's assets far outweigh its liabilities (if you can even find them). First and foremost, the sound quality is superb; the radio gives excellent clarity of voice and instrument at varying ranges with no muffling present. It takes about a half hour to warm up and one will experience some station drift as it does so. Once it is warm, I have found it to lock on to stations very well. Talk radio stations sound very clear (albeit with a slight touch of bass), but nothing that I have had issue with- it is very well balanced for a radio with no tonal controls. Whether it is music or talk radio, the sound fills my living room and dining room with no distortion. The dark matte finish of the case is heirloom quality, built to last, and very attractive to display- so much so, my wife gave me "special dispensation" to bring it forth from my Mancave to the living area. The reception is excellent on FM and very good on AM during the daytime. At night, there are some Reno AM stations that become harder to pick up even with "better" receivers, and my Terk AM Advantage works very well inductively pulling in some of those harder to receive stations. It is not a DX-intended radio, but its reception is nothing to sneeze at on FM or AM. In Reno, I do not need an antenna for this radio and the local stations come in quite clearly. If the need ever arises, the radio has selections and ports for FM and AM internal/ external antennae independently. The radio also comes equipped with a "magic eye" indicator for station reception. Even when the two sides of the eye are not convergent (which is a scenario that seldom applies to a very few Reno stations received by this radio), I still get good reception and quality. For alternative input, it has an aux-in port and selector knob option for IPod plug-in, but I often use a CC Radio Transmitter 2 from my Grace internet radio.I do not have another apples-for-apples comparable radio (like a Tivoli Model Two) or another transistor electronic stereo to give a good "shoot-out", but my Tivoli Model One, which I once thought to be quite clear and distinct, does not match the warmth or clarity of the Tesslor R601S. My Sangean WR-11 sounds even more bass-heavy and less listenable with talk radio. (As I said, these are good monoaural radios and not in the R601S' league for proper comparison). I had a quality question and when I called Tesslor, I received a live person on the phone on the first two rings who was very knowledgeable and answered my questions to my satisfaction. I would think there would be a swift response if there were any service issues. If you have other questions, there are good comments here on Amazon as well as a very good video review. The Tesslor R601S has been a wonderful addition to our home; this was the best radio gift I have ever received, and my wife hit the nail on the head with this one!*2016 UPDATE- I opted for the Bluetooth 3.0 Upgrade last year and it has worked perfectly! 3 years in, I had a popping sound in the left speaker come up soon after the bluetooth upgrade, and Robert at Tesslor immediately responded with 2 brand new easy to install tubes mailed to me gratis. I am listening to its superior sound as I write this. Still an excellent purchase!
